Our Story
Back in 1998 I worked for a top 5 US bank helping manage the web servers. We had several home-grown internal monitoring tools to track the health of the machines but nothing that actually monitored the servers from outside the company firewall. From time to time customers would call us saying they were having trouble reaching our site, even though all seemed well from our perspective within our firewall. At that point we realized that monitoring our own website from within was not enough; that we needed to monitor it from outside the company to see exactly what the customer was seeing. This would also allow us to know immediately when a problem was occurring with our website.
We only found a few internet monitoring tools that would what we needed but the prices were outrageous (even for a bank to pay). Since I am a programmer, I decided to write my own monitoring tool to get something implemented immediately. In my spare time at home I wrote a monitoring tool that we could use from outside the company to monitor uptime and performance from a customers perspective. The initial code was written quickly and served its' purpose. After we started using it, I figured other companies must be experiencing the same problem. I used what I had learned from that tool and talked with many of my IT friends about functionality and usability. Six months later, SiteGuardian was released.
Our Mission
To provide our customers with the most accurate and easy-to-use internet monitoring tools which give a clear and accurate picture of performance, trends, and uptime with the ability to detect and report on problem areas that could result in customer impact.
